I grew up watching the old version. Then, when I found out Lauren Faust was involved(she was involved with PPG), I had to watch it. Then, it turned out to be AWESOME.
I watched an episode of the "Friendship is Magic" series and thought it was pretty cute I've only seen the one episode so far, but I'd like to see more episodes I'm still surprised with how popular it's gotten
let me give you a run down while the show is targeted at young girls it is beautifully animated and the characters are well designed the community makes it even better people only judge it because its about ponies who use the name of hasbros toys for little girls and the underlaying, usually obvious life lessons in every episode.
